The Research Council of Norway (RCN) made an on-site visit to MediaFutures as part of the contractual follow-up of the research centre.

The RCN was represented by Liv Jorunn Jenssen, Solbjørg Rauset and Gunnlaug Daugstad.

Besides the centre’s management team and researchers, present at the meeting were Jan Erik Askildsen, the dean of the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Bergen and Marija Slavkovik , the head of the Department of Information Science and Media Studies. The meeting was opened by Christian Birkeland, Chairman of the Steering Board & Chief Digital Officer at TV 2. Among invited guests were also the representatives for the centre’s industry partners – Lars Skjerven from TV 2, and Eivind Fiskerud from Bergens Tidende.

The purpose of the visit was for the RCN to review the centre’s work to date, and to discuss challenges MediaFutures encountered in the first two years of its operation.

About the RCN’s on-site visit, Prof. Chirstoph Trattner says: “ I am delighted to be able to present to the RCN what we have achieved since the centre’s launch in 2020, as well as engage in dialogue on some of the challenges, and receive feedback on the things we have done”.

After the meeting at MediaFutures, the RCN’s delegation was taken on a tour around the Media City Bergen premises.

The SFI Centre

The Research Council of Norway (RCN) administers a number of funding schemes to promote excellence in research. One of them is the SFI (Centre for Research-based Innovation) scheme. Its main objective is to develop expertise in fields of importance for innovation and value creation. MediaFutures has been granted the SFI status in October 2020 for a period of eight years.
