Work Package 1 visits research and industry partners

Last week, MediaFutures’ Work Package 1 under the guidance of Prof. Hallvard Moe visited research and industry partners in Oslo. The trip lasted two days and aimed at discussing news ideas and possible challenges.

“With the restrictions imposed on traveling, we were eager to visit key industry partners to learn more about their current work, the opportunities and challenges they see for our work. Nothing beats spending time together in a room when it comes to getting a better understanding and developing new ideas. Our professor II, Irene Costera Meijer, joined us from Amsterdam, which was important also for the recruits in the WP”, says Prof. Hallvard Moe, Work Package 1 leader.

Erik Knudsen, researcher in WP1, adds “It was nice to meet industry partners face to face and not just via Zoom / Teams. In this way, you become better acquainted, which in turn makes it easier to collaborate in the future. The trip was also important for team building within the work package. This was WP1’s first trip together and several of the members’ first work-related trip since the pandemic started”.

The industry partners were equally content with the gathering: ”The meeting gave us the opportunity to understand the current research agenda in the workstream, and the ability to share how our journalists and editors think and work, as well as how we think about challenges we face. We have already identified a couple of follow-up activities. I am convinced that this will lead to better cooperative results and insights that can help guide relevant, targeted innovation in the future”, says Eivind Throndsen, product manager at Schibsted and one of the co-hosts for the meeting.

Understanding Media Experiences

Work Package 1, led by Prof. Brita Ytre-Arne and Prof. Hallvard Moe, research on media user experiences. The WP’ main objective is to provide fundamental knowledge on how users will interact with the media of the future, by monitoring and understanding users across media through advanced quantitative and qualitative approaches.
