Northern Lights Deep Learning Conference
7 January, 2025 @ 08:00 - 17:00
Deep learning is an emerging subfield in machine learning that has in recent years achieved state-of-the-art performance in image classification, object detection, segmentation, time series prediction and speech recognition to name a few. This conference will gather researchers both on a national and international level to exchange ideas, encourage collaborations and present cutting-edge research.
MediaFutures centre leader Professor Christoph Trattner will participate in the session AI as a Mirror to Society, where he will discuss how AI impacts diversity—whether it’s due to insufficient data for developing robust LLMs for small languages, or how recommender systems can lead to a decline in diversity of thought through the creation of echo chambers.
Keynote topic: A technical talk on recommender systems, focusing on how this technology is often used to enhance misinformation and create echo chambers, and what can be done to combat this.
