Workshop: From Research to Academic Startup

Curious about how to bring your research to life outside academia? This workshop provides a chance to explore just that. Through inspiring talks of start-up founders, hands-on activities, and networking, you’ll get a taste of what it takes to turn research into a startup venture.

Highlights include:

– An introduction to VIS’ brand-new entrepreneurship program for researchers, TILT, tailored to provide researchers and graduate students with entrepreneurial skills, expert advisory services and access to capital and networks. Recruitment of pilot participants in progress!

– Inspirational stories from innovators who’ve made the transition to startup founders

– Case work to start building an entrepreneurial mindset

Program Outline

  • 10:00 – 10:15: Coffee and mingling
  • 10:15 – 11:00: Introducing VIS & TILT & ADA incubator
  • 11:00 – 11:50: Small Group Activity – Designing a Start-Up Plan
  • 12:00 – 12:45: Inspirational Talks:
    • Luqman Wadood, Founder and CEO of UngDebatt (Bergen)
    • Jonathan Geffen, Co-Founder and CTO of the gaming start-up Cross Hatch (Berlin)
    • Håvard Tveit, Co-founder and CEO Everviz (Bergen)
    • Gaute Kokkvoll, Head of Product at Factiverse (Bergen)
