AI Video Clipping Tool

Developed in collaboration with TV 2, the AI Video Clipping Tool processes raw news footage to automatically generate short, editorial-ready clips, each paired with an Edit Decision List (EDL) to guide efficient post-production.

The idea behind this tool is to enhance newsroom efficiency and accelerate the video editing workflow. The tool enables editors to select clip types and durations — ranging from short, engaging sound bites to longer segments tailored for broadcast or digital platforms.

Currently, video news clipping is a manual process in which editors or journalists are required to carefully review the entire raw video content, select key moments or segments to include in the clip, discard unnecessary parts, and organize them into a cohesive and logical sequence. This process also involves adapting content for different platforms, which is time-consuming and demands significant manual effort.

The AI Video Clipping Tool aims to address this challenge by automating the most labor-intensive parts of the process. It empowers editorial teams to focus on storytelling while the AI handles the heavy lifting of video processing and editing.

We are currently extending the tool into a fully multimodal solution that incorporates audio and text alongside visual input. The goal is to enable prompt-driven clipping, where editors can guide the model with a short textual prompt, helping it prioritize which moments to select and summarize. This makes the tool even more aligned with real-world newsroom needs, where editorial intent and story framing are key.
