Emily LaRosa’s research program is centered on AI and trust, particularly in socially consequential applied settings. Her work at Michigan State University focused on how trust should be appropriately grounded when AI is introduced into domains such as healthcare, autonomous systems, and agriculture. Her publication record includes coauthored work with Dr. David Danks on the effects of healthcare AI on trust, and her more recent scholarship argues for carefully distinguishing trust in experts from trust in AI systems themselves. Currently, LaRosa’s project focuses on her Curated Information Framework (CIF), which she has developed as a route to appropriate AI transparency and justifiable information-sharing in human-AI systems; the CIF is a practical way of structuring how information should be communicated to affected users and stakeholders. Said framework will contribute significantly to discussions of explainability, transparency, and editorial accountability in AI-supported news production and distribution.
