Established in 1989, the National Library is a public institution operating under the authority of the Ministry of Culture with over 550 employees located in Oslo and Mo in Rana municipality. The National Library’s main task is to collect, preserve and disseminate Norwegian publications in all media as source material for research and documentation. As part of this assignment, the National Library also carries out research and development at its own collections, with particular emphasis on computerized methods and theories. The National Library maintains and develops the technological infrastructure for Språkbanken, the Norwegian Language Bank, a collection of digitised linguistic resources, and the Digital Humanities Laboratory that assists scholars, students, and library users in their engagement with digital tools and methods in the pursuit of humanistic questions.
