The University of Bergen (UiB), host of MediaFutures. The Department of Information Science and Media Studies (InfoMedia) at UiB is hosting MediaFutures. The department’s research includes the study of information, communication and media technologies. The department has successfully executed numerous NFR projects in both ICT and media, and hosts several NFR funded innovation and research projects, including IKTPLUSS, KULMEDIA and SAMANSVAR projects. Further participants in MediaFutures are the Research Group on Language Models and Resources at the Department of Linguistic, Literary and Aesthetic Studies, the CLARINO infrastructure for language data, and DIGSSCORE, a social science infrastructure with a research panel of over 6000 active participants. UiB’s exclusive proximity to leading companies positioned in Media City Bergen has made the department a nationally leading research institution within media and technology. UiB’s larger strategy stipulates the goal of knowledge creation for the benefit of society, within which MediaFutures will be essential.
The centre will expand on and strengthen rewarding collaborations between industry and academia, accommodate the university’s increased focus on innovation and enabling entrepreneurial and commercialisation activities, and form a vital contribution to the development of outstanding environments of research, innovation and education overall (University of Bergen, 2019).
