Stipendiat i norske språkteknologiar

 

Velkommen som søkjar til ei stipendiatstillingved MediaFutures: Forskingssenter for ansvarleg medieteknologi og innovasjon. Stillinga er knytt til Institutt for lingvistiske, litterære og estetiske studium (LLE) . Planlagd oppstart er 01.08.2023, eller etter avtale. Stillinga er for ein åremålsperiode på fire år. 

Arbeidsoppgåver

 

Me ser etter ein kandidat som ønskjer å jobba med forskingsfrontane til ansvarlege medieteknologiar med fokus på språkteknologi for generering av norske nyheitstekstar. Ei viktig forskingsutfordring i MediaFutures er generering av norsk tekstleg medieinnhald automatisk frå kvantitative datakjelder, databasar, kunnskapsgrafar og narrative strukturar. Denne oppgåva kan ta for seg versjonering ved å tilpassa leksikalske, grammatiske og stilistiske val til brukarprofilar (inkludert kognitiv tilgjengelegheit), medieeigenskapar (t.d. skjermstorleik), journalistisk format og andre parametrar. Metodikken kan inkludera generative nevrale koder-dekoder-arkitekturer, ved å bruka ein stor norsk språkmodell som for tida blir utvikla i prosjektet. Domenespesifikke datasett og modellinndata kan samlast inn i samarbeid med industripartnarar og andre arbeidspakkar. Evaluering av dei utvikla generasjonsmodellane vil vera viktig.

Ph.d.-kandidaten skal jobba ved MediaFutures i Arbeidspakke 5 og vil samarbeida med forskarar og partnarar i denne arbeidspakken, inkludert UiO, Nasjonalbiblioteket, Schibsted, Amedia og TV2, og med relevante forskarar og partnarar i andre arbeidspakkar òg. Kandidaten vil også få støtte i forskargruppa for språkmodellar og ressursar ved LLE, UiB. Kandidaten vil bli rettleidd av Prof. Dr. Koenraad De Smedt (LLE), med  bi-rettleiing av andre arbeidspakkemedlemmer, og vil rapportera til senterdirektøren ved MediaFutures. Kandidaten vil også gjennomføra utplasseringar hos industripartnarar i MediaFutures.

 

Kvalifikasjonar og eigenskapar:

  • Søkjarar må ha norsk mastergrad eller tilsvarande utanlandsk grad innan datalingvistikk, språkteknologi eller tilsvarande relevante fag. Det er ein føresetnad at mastergraden er oppnådd innan søknadsfristen går ut. Søkjarar som berre dokumenterer annan grad enn norsk mastergrad blir vurderte etter krav frå Nasjonalt organ for kvalitet i utdanning (NOKUT) og Det humanistiske fakultet sine retningsliner.
  • Søkjarar må ha gode programmeringskunnskapar i Python, kunnskap om datavitskaplege metodar og kvantitative metodar.
  • Tidlegare erfaring med nevrale tilnærmingar og spesielt generative språkmodellar er ein føremon.
  • Erfaring frå relevant vitskapleg arbeid (t.d. tidlegare konferanse- og tidsskriftpublikasjonar) er ein føremon.
  • Søkjar må beherske engelsk, skriftleg og munnleg (arbeidsspråket i prosjektet).
  • Kunnskapar i norsk eller anna skandinavisk språk er ein føremon.
  • Personlege eigenskapar vert vektlagd. Me ønskjer kandidatar som kan jobba strukturert, både sjølvstendig og i team, er løysingsorienterte, og har gode kommunikasjonsevner. 

Søkjarar må skrive ein omtale av eit forskingsprosjekt som skal munne ut i ei doktorgradsavhandling. 

Søkjarar vil bli vurderte etter opptakskrav frå Det humanistiske fakultet, etter Ph.d.-programmets pkt. 2.1.

I vurderinga av søknadene blir det lagt vekt både på den vitskaplege kvaliteten i prosjekta og dei faglege grunnkvalifikasjonane søkjarane har. Det blir vidare lagt vekt på fagstrategiske omsyn, dessutan at søkjaren er motivert og personleg eigna for stillinga.

Administrative Coordinator

Welcome as an applicant to a permanent full-time position as Administrative Coordinator at MediaFutures: Research Centre for Responsible Media Technology & Innovation.

About the project/work tasks:

 

Prepare and write reports to be delivered to the Research Council of Norway and partners

Coordinate and organize various events, workshops and conferences

Onboard new employees, create routines and social meeting points for the staff

Receive guests at the centre

Develop and maintain admin routines, guidelines and quality assurance at the centre

Be responsible for the daily office management and for the handling of orders and following up orders

Serve as a secretary and assist the director for various admin activities, e.g., setting up board items, meetings, create meeting minutes, etc.

Other tasks may be delegated over time by the centre director

 

Qualifications and personal qualities:

Master’s degree in economics and / or administrative subjects.

Experience with reporting.

Good communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and in a structured manner, and to cooperate with others.

Very good MS Office competences.

Good command in both written and oral English and Norwegian/Scandinavian.

Knowledge about the media and/or technology industry and an understanding of the university sector is beneficial.

Personal and team player qualities will be emphasized.

Innovation manager 

There is a vacancy for a temporary 50% researcher position at MediaFutures: Research Centre for Responsible Media Technology & Innovation at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies, University of Bergen. This is a temporary project position for two years. The expected start date is 1 August 2023.

The researcher will be responsible to work in collaboration with the work packages on the delivery of the innovation tasks in MediaFutures. Work packages in MediaFutures are teams up to a size of 15 people (researcher & industry) with a background in media tech. Work packages deliver on certain tasks on a regular basis, are led by a Professor and Industry leader and create outputs such as novel methods, scientific reports, and articles, as well as software or patents.

The overall goal of this position is to strengthen the centre in its ability to deliver on its innovation tasks which are concerned with the translation from research outputs to innovation results such as patents, spin-offs, etc. In this context, this position will also play an important bridging role between research and industry in the centre, and it is expected that this position actively contributes with its research to an enhanced collaborative innovation environment.

A further exciting task for this position is that the researcher will develop an MediaFutures innovation model. The results of this research are to be published in an overall report which is further to be developed in an innovation plan for the centre.

Finally, the researcher will be concerned with the task to coordinate the organisation of events that bring together the MediaFutures researchers and industry partners, dissemination of results and administrative tasks.

Ph.D fellowship in Explainable AI (XAI)

 

The University of Stavanger invites applicants for a PhD Fellowship in Explainable AI (XAI) at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The position is vacant from August 2023. The PhD position is part of the MediaFutures Centre for Research-Based Innovation, which is part of the Norwegian Research Council’s Research-based Innovation scheme. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at University of Stavanger (UiS) is task leader in Work Package 3 on Media Content Production & Analysis.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

We are looking for applicants with a strong academic background who have completed a five-year master degree (3+2) within machine learning, natural language processing or information retrieval, preferably acquired recently; or who possess corresponding qualifications that could provide a basis for successfully completing a doctorate.

To be eligible for admission to the doctoral programmes at the University of Stavanger both the grade for your master’s thesis and the weighted average grade of your master’s degree must individually be equivalent to or better than a B grade. If you finish your education (masters degree) in the spring of 2023 you are also welcome to apply.

Applicants with an education from an institution with a different grade scale than A-F, and/or with other types of credits than sp/ECTS, must attach a confirmed conversion scale that shows how the grades can be compared with the Norwegian A-F scale and a Diploma Supplement or similar that explains the scope of the subjects that are included in the education. You can use these conversion scales  to calculate your points for admission.
